Free BenEzra True-Type Font

BenEzra02.ttf. This all-new sans-serif Hebrew font has been created by me for use by the faculty and students at Baptist Bible Seminary. It is designed to provide a font that can be typed from the keyboard without special codes or keyboard programs, that provides overstrike vowels, that is semi-proportional with two different character widths and a full set of vowels for each width for a more pleasing appearance than fixed-width fonts, and that has a style compatible with the Galilee font produced by Dr. Rod Decker (http://faculty.bbc.edu/rdecker/galilee.htm).

It is free for your personal, non-commercial use. (NOTE CAREFULLY: You may use this font in personal notes, class assignments, handouts for classes, personal websites, and for submission of articles to the Journal of Ministry and Theology [which is published by BBS]. You may not rename, modify, or use this font as the basis of a new font. You may not sell this font, commercially distribute it, or place it on a publicly accessible server. Please refer all those wishing to download the font to this page.) This is a test version: While it is a standard True-Type font, and should not cause problems on your computer, under no circumstances will Alan D. Ingalls or Baptist Bible Seminary be liable for any problems that you encounter in using the font or for any loss or damage that results from its installation or use. Downloading and installing the font indicates your acceptance of these terms. To install the font, click on the link above and save the file in your "c:\windows\fonts" directory.

Here are two Acrobat (.pdf) files here which you may find helpful: BenEzra02KBD.pdf provides a chart of keyboard correspondences which can be trimmed and taped along the edge of your computer monitor. SubSP2Ben.pdf provides the text of a Word 2000 macro which converts text typed in the SPEzra font to BenEzra. You can record a macro (it doesn't matter what it does), open the macro to edit it, and paste this text into the macro. The macro is not perfect, and could probably be streamlined somewhat, but it seems to take care of most problems. A careful proofreading of the results and a few minor adjustments will probably be sufficient.

The version of the font linked above should work fine on Windows and on Mac OS X. If you are running "Classic Mac OS" (i.e., vv. 7, 8, 9), click HERE to download a Mac version converted by Dr. Rodney Decker. This file MUST be decompressed with Unstuffit before installing. My thanks to Dr. Decker for providing this converted/compressed version.

With the appearance of new Unicode Hebrew fonts (see fonts links page), it is unlikely that I will make any changes or improvements to this font. PLEASE report any problems or suggestions to me (aingalls@bbc.edu).
