Introduction to Fine Arts fieldtrips for spring semester 2009

La Rondine (Puccini): February 26, 2009

Rigoletto (Verdi): April 14, 2009

Click on titles above for synopsis of each.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING NOTICE:

1. This is not a "chaperoned" fieldtrip. We are all adults. There have not been any problems with this trip in the past. No students have been left behind before, however, this owes to students being responsible.

2. In the morning, the bus leaves at 8 am. It will be waiting behind the bookstore in the parking lot near Nordling, Schaeffer, Ridley, etc. If you are not there, we will leave without you. This fieldtrip is mandatory to pass the course.

3. After the Opera, the bus will be waiting right around the block from Lincoln Center. Pick up your things you may have checked in the coat room, etc, and board the bus immediately. It will be after 11 pm. If you are not there, we will leave without you.

4. You will have to provide for all of your own meals. This means (a) get up early and eat breakfast (b) bring resources for lunch and dinner--both will be up to you in NYC.

5. We will be arriving home as late at perhaps 2 am. Bring a pillow for the bus ride.

6. Bring a backpack. You might want to buy things, pick  up brochures, etc. Your backpack can be checked along with jackets in a coat room at the MET. If you are permitted to bring your bags into the theater, be prepared for it to be opened and looked through by security.

7. If the season is chilly bring a jacket, hat and gloves. If you want to leave things on the bus once we get there, that's fine. You will not be able to access the bus until after the opera when we board for our return trip.

8. If you have binoculars, bring them in your bag. Sounds strange, but you will be happy to have them in the Opera House.

9. I have your tickets. I will hand them out to you on the bus.

10. Go in groups in NYC. I recommend you stay in Manhattan, but that is all in your hands.

11. Time absolutely flies when you are getting oriented to city pace, transportation, etc. I recommend that you be back up near Lincoln Center at least an hour or so before the show for dinner.

12. I recommend that you bring some cash even if you intend to purchase meals with a VISA. You may need cash to purchase a day pass for the subway, to pay for a Taxi ride, etc.

13. I will have maps to hand out to you on the bus.

14. Bring your student IDs for discounts getting into museums.
